Making Matcha Part of Your Morning Breakfast

As you probably already know, there are endless possibilities with how you enjoy matcha. You can brew it hot or cold, at it to foods you already eat, or even use it in your baking for an extra health kick. In case you like to start your mornings with matcha, here are five ways that you can make it a part of your breakfast—other than brewing hot or cold matcha.

Matcha latte

Do you have a longstanding tradition of sipping on a hot or iced latte in the mornings? Matcha makes for a great addition to hot and iced lattes alike. For a warm matcha latte, for example, brew matcha as usual (you can find directions here), and then heat milk or almond milk in a saucepan. Add optional flavorings to your milk, and then pour it over your prepared matcha.

Matcha smoothie

Smoothies are a common go-to for many people on the go, and if this applies to you, adding matcha to your morning mix couldn’t be easier. Some popular flavors that people love to pair with matcha include strawberry, banana, mango, coconut, and kale.

Matcha overnight oats

Ever tried making overnight oats? The concept is simple: combine some dry oats, milk or vegan milk, chia seeds, and optional flavorings in a jar in the evening, and then refrigerate them overnight for a nutritious breakfast that’s ready to go in the morning. Add a teaspoon of matcha to the mix, and the health benefits of your overnight oats go even further.

Matcha pancakes

Protein packed pancakes are a growing trend these days, and what better health booster to add than matcha green tea powder? For matcha-packed pancakes, simply add about 2 tablespoons of matcha powder for a typical pancake recipe that yields about 10 pancakes. For best results, add match to a protein pancake recipe that includes wholesome ingredients like brown rice flour, coconut oil, and hemp protein powder.

Matcha glazed donuts

Glazed donuts don’t exactly sound like the healthiest breakfast option, but there are many fun recipes for donuts out there that make use of wholesome, raw ingredients, such as almond meal, bananas, and maple syrup. The bonus here is that matcha powder is versatile enough to go into your donuts and become a part of your glaze.
